Liliebook I thank:) As soon as I received it, I started to read it. I was not sure what to expect. The story of a young girl in a coma made me think if I stay Gayle Forman but the comparison stops there. Every year
Hal and his family spend the summer holidays at the sea in Cornwall. But this year is different because Charley, his sister is gone. Hal found his lifeless body on the beach last year. He would like to forget these events, but something drives him to discover what happened that day.
Watching the coverage, one might expect a novel light and gay but it is not the case. The atmosphere is heavy, dark, nostalgic sad to see.
It's true we can not tackle a topic like this in a flippant tone, but the atmosphere seemed to me sometimes too heavy, suffocating. In
the first part, we discover the characters and what happened to Charley. His parents keep
hopes come and see her every day at the hospital. They keep telling him kind words. They seem pathetic especially through the eyes of Hal who prefers to insult his sister to react and return to life.
The recklessness of the youngest, Sarah is a breath of fresh air in this world of sadness and despair.
Charley was a teenager like any other very complicit with her brother until she met Pete. It is older than Charley. It is mysterious, beautiful but a little superficial.
I found the first part rather boring, a little too maudlin.
When the memories resurface of Hal and we realize that the death of Charley is perhaps not an accident, the story becomes more interesting. Everyone had to know what happened. I made several assumptions, but none has proved true because the author did not choose the easy way.
His style is sometimes just a bit messy. I found that there were too many descriptions. Have a different description of the sea almost every page is really boring.
link between Hal and Charley adds a fantastic dimension history. This relationship between the two is rather strange. Is it communicates by thought or something else? We do not really understand. But thanks to this link that we will relive the past and discover what happened to Charley.
To conclude, my opinion is somewhat mixed. History, especially the mystery surrounding the death of Charley is captivating. The suspense continues until the end of the book. But the mood of the book is a bit too heavy and the style of the author rather boring.
