Deniesmilani Without Clothes

Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier

4th cover:
the early hours at Manderley, the sumptuous home of West of England, the memory of those that it replaced it is necessary to the young woman just married Maxim De Winter.
Rebecca, drowned, continues to exert an influence on everyone on the edge of morbid. The new Mrs. De Winter, shy, retiring, inexperienced struggles of his best against the anxiety that came over, but the fight against the ghost of Rebecca is too uneven.
Daphne Du Maurier in Rebecca, who is perhaps the most novel feature of his talent, fascinates the reader and leads to the discovery of disturbing realities without leaving the familiar area of everyday life.
There was always afraid to start a classic thinking it is boring but some are real treasures. This is the case of Rebecca who waited patiently for a while in my PAL.

The narrator, a young lady's companion met Mr. de Winter during a trip to Monte Carlo. Soon They become good friends and heroine accepts the marriage proposal of Maximilian de Winter. Arrival at Manderley, she realizes that this is not exactly what she was dreaming ...

I saw at the end of the book that we do not know the name of the narrator. It is a simple girl, very shy, awkward and inexperienced. We identify it very easily. It is very endearing if somewhat annoying at times so it is naive. At the same time as we discover Manderley and the shadow of the former Mrs. de Winter is still hanging on. It was an elegant woman, who intelligently all succeeded. The new Mrs. de Winter realizes very quickly that she can never compete with it. Maxim
seems cold and distant to his wife. His past haunts him, he can not forget Rebecca.
The secondary characters are also very interesting. Franck is endearing rather frightening Mrs. Danvers see tyrannical.

Some passages describing daily life at Manderley can be a bit boring but they are involved in the strange atmosphere of the novel. Indeed, the narrator realizes that since the death of the former hostess nothing has changed in the little routine of the household. Some events are
predictable as the history of costume for the ball. But the truth about Rebecca is amazing, I was not expecting it at all until the last line the author surprises us.

His style is very pleasant at all rather simple even pompous. The descriptions are poetic, but succinct. I read very quickly, I look forward to the end of the story.
Do not be afraid to read Rebecca, a classic it is very easy to read. The story is captivating and the characters very likeable.

Happiness is not something to possess, it is a quality of thought, a mood.

If only we could invent something, "I said quickly, which keeps a memory in a bottle, like a perfume, which does not evaporate, does not fade. When we would want, could uncork the bottle and we relive the moment spent
